Welcome to the CatchMark SportsNet: Player of the Week, where we celebrate the unsung heroes and rising stars who light up the local sports scene! Each week, we put the spotlight on three extraordinary athletes who not only rack up impressive stats but also inspire their teammates and elevate their game.

At the end of this article, you’ll find a poll where you can cast your vote for the athlete you believe deserves the title of Player of the Week. The poll will be open for one week, starting today and ending on the following Friday (January 31st, 2024). Keshaun Johnson, Senior, Muskegon Boys Basketball

The 6’5″ forward committed to Ferris State University for Basketball has been on an absolute tear as of late. Against rival Reeths-Puffer this past Friday, Johnson poured out a 32-point performance in the win. Most recently, Johnson scored 16 points against Ottawa Hills on Saturday.

Zackary Lockhart, Senior, Oakridge Boys Bowling

Lockhart is one of the leaders on the Oakridge boys bowling team that ranks first in division three. Lockhart contributed games of 174 and 150, aiding the Eagles in their victory over Whitehall. He improved his performance with games of 185 and 155, contributing to Oakridge’s win against Montague this past week.

Ava Pelton, Senior, Montague Girls Wrestling

Pelton recently achieved win 100 in her career at the Northview Invitational. Pelton finished runner-up at the invite. The Montague girls’ team competed in its last meet until individual districts this past Saturday. Pelton secured another second-place finish and is currently 20-5 on the season.

Myles Welch joined CatchMark in February 2024 as a CatchMark SportsNet Intern. He would like to become a sports broadcaster or analyst. He currently attends Whitehall High School and will graduate in 2025.
