Montague wrestling’s Ava Pelton wins CatchMark SportsNet Player of Week (Feb. 12-18, 2024)

Ava Pelton is rolling on and off the wrestling mat right now.

Last weekend, the Montague junior dominated her bracket at individual regionals. This week, she finished atop the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll.

Pelton finished with 2,507 of 4,603 total votes in the poll, which recognized six winter sports athletes for their performances Feb. 12-18, 2024. Mason County Central junior wrestler Hunter Sanford finished second in the poll with 1,501 votes.

Pelton captured an individual regional title in the 155-pound weight class last Sunday at Cadillac. She pinned her way through the bracket, beating LeRoy Pine River’s Adalyn Holmes in 3:28 in the finals.

Pelton is one of five Lady Mat Cats to punch their tickets to the individual state finals March 1-2 at Ford Field in Detroit. Pelton has a 25-4 record on the season.
