Ravenna all-around standout Hunter Hogan wins hotly contested Player of the Week poll

Senior has been carrying the Bulldogs all season. This week, others went to bat for him.

Is there anything Hunter Hogan cannot do?

The do-everything senior has definitely won the hearts and minds of folks in Ravenna and beyond.

In a hotly contested voting race, Hogan is the winner of the CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week fan poll that closed at noon today (Friday, Nov. 4). The Ravenna football standout and all-around athlete edged Oakridge football player Trever Jones in a voting competition that went back and forth.

Hogan finished with 9,706 votes compared to 9,243 for Jones. A total of 19,216 votes were cast in this week’s fan poll, which recognized six West Michigan Conference fall sports athletes for their performances spanning Oct. 24-29, 2022.

Hogan’s and Jones’ respective school communities really went to bat — well, to the fan poll — for their representatives. Both of their teams will compete in district championship football games this weekend. Oakridge hosts Belding tonight, while Ravenna travels to Ithaca on Saturday.

Hogan, a 5-foot-9, 175-pounder, carried the Bulldogs on his back en route to a 10-7 win over rival North Muskegon in a Division 7 first-round playoff game last Friday.

He accounted for all of the Bulldogs’ points: The quarterback scored on a 30-yard touchdown run, kicked the PAT and later booted a 23-yard field goal that proved the difference. The free safety also notched 7.5 tackles.
