Player of the Week

Vote for CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week (Jan. 15-20, 2024)

The poll will remain open until noon on Friday, Jan. 26.

It’s Monday and you know what that means: It’s time for another CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll.

Nominees have been selected and the fan poll created for Player of the Week, which is title sponsored by Complete Restoration & Cleaning Services, Inc.

We need your votes.

Six winter sports athletes from the conference who stood out in competitions Jan. 15-20, 2024, have been nominated by CatchMark SportsNet. Student-athletes who have already won Player of the Week honors this season are not eligible to be in the fan poll.

Time for you to vote, over and over. The poll can be found at the bottom of this story after brief capsules on the nominees. You may vote once per hour. The poll closes at noon Friday, Jan. 26.

Athletes are listed alphabetically:

ISAIAH ATCHISON, Montague basketball

The 6-foot-8 senior posted a dominant stat line in host Montague’s 56-51 victory over Oakridge on Friday: Game-high 20 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocks. In the process, the Wildcats avenged their six-point loss to the Eagles earlier in the season. In the rematch, Montague enjoyed a double-digit lead before Oakridge worked its way back into the game.

KENDRA DENHOF, Ravenna bowling

The Bulldogs senior has been posted some impressive scores this season for a squad that enters this week with a 10-1 overall record. In Ravenna’s 28-2 victory over Fremont last Wednesday in WMC action, Denhof rolled a 229 to go with her 139. In Ravenna’s 24-6 win over Ludington the week before, she shot 198 and 187.

ABBY HICKS, Hart basketball

The 5-foot-7 senior guard became the third player in Pirates girls basketball history to record a triple-double with her 23-point, 14-rebound, 10-steal performance in Saturday’s 61-49 victory at Manistee. Hicks also had a strong game in Hart’s 58-32 home win over Montague last Thursday, when she finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

DARNELL MACK, Whitehall wrestling

The Vikings’ senior 150-pounder recorded three pinfalls in as many matches en route to capturing the individual title in his weight class of the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tournament Saturday at Muskegon High School. Mack’s victory over Orchard View’s Xander Randall in the semifinals was the 100th of his career. Last Wednesday, Mack (29-0 record) pinned both WMC opponents in dual action, which was highlighted by Division 3 No. 3 Whitehall’s 53-18 win over Division 3 No. 4 Hart.

CHAZ MILLER, Fremont basketball

Packers coach Adam Bowen said that Miller played his best game of the season in a 62-35 road victory over Manistee Friday in WMC Lakes Division play. The 5-foot-10 senior point guard finished with 16 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and five steals. Miller scored a co-team-high 10 points in Fremont’s loss at Whitehall last Tuesday.

AVA PELTON, Montague wrestling

The Wildcats junior bumped up a weight class from 155 pounds to 170 for a dual-style invitational Saturday at Holt, and she responded in a big way. Pelton finished 5-0 individually as Montague’s girls wrestling team went 2-3 on the day despite having only seven girls competing. She enters this week with a 15-3 record and is ranked No. 6 in the state at the 155-pound weight class.
