It’s the 11th and final week of the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll for 2023 spring sports.
Four spring sports athletes from the conference who stood out in competitions June 12-17 have been nominated by the CatchMark SportsNet team. Only Ravenna’s softball team and North Muskegon’s girls soccer squad were still playing as of last week, so this week’s poll features two student-athletes from each.
Time to get voting.
The poll can be found at the bottom of this story after brief capsules on the nominees. The poll closes at noon Friday, June 23.
Athletes who have already been voted Player of the Week this spring are not up for consideration.
Athletes are listed alphabetically:
EMMA GILLARD, Ravenna softball
This senior utility player was 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored from her leadoff spot, plus she earned the pitching win, in Ravenna’s 12-6 Division 3 state quarterfinal victory over Buchanan last Tuesday. Gillard, a Ferris State University signee, was an emotional leader for a Bulldogs team that set a school record for wins (36-6) and advanced to the state semifinals for the first time since 2005.
EMMA HERREMANS, Ravenna softball
This sophomore third baseman and No. 3 hitter in the Bulldogs’ tough lineup had a monster game in a 12-6 Division 3 state quarterfinal win over Buchanan last Tuesday. Herremans went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double. She drove in three and scored three. Herremans, an all-stater and the CatchMark WMC Player of the Year, also had one of Ravenna’s three hits in a 10-1 state semifinal loss to Standish-Sterling on Friday.
EMMA LAMIMAN, North Muskegon soccer
This junior keeper helped keep the Norse in the game against the Kalamazoo Christian in a 3-1 overtime loss to the Comets last Wednesday in the Division 4 state semifinals.
