Whitehall basketball’s Camden Thompson wins Player of Week poll for Dec. 11-16, 2023

Junior standout posted a monster triple-double in rivalry win at Montague last Thursday.

Camden Thompson is putting up such crooked numbers this season, the stat program used by Whitehall’s boys basketball team is working overtime to keep up.

Thompson also registered some impressive tallies en route to winning the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll this week.

The Whitehall junior amassed 3,799 of 7,905 total votes in the poll, which recognized six winter sports athletes for their performances Dec. 11-16, 2023.

Montague wrestler Christopher Aebig, who last Saturday notched his 100th career victory, gave Thompson a run for his money with 3,177 votes to finish runner-up in the poll. See complete voting totals at the bottom of this story.

Thompson, a 6-foot-5 wing, continues to fill the stat sheet with big-time performances. He was at it again last Thursday in Whitehall’s 66-35 win at Montague, where he finished with 23 points, 27 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks, and two steals.

Two days earlier, in a 66-58 nonleague home win over Sparta, Thompson totaled 26 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block.

Thompson also won the CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week fan poll during the football season.

Whitehall’s basketball team is off to a 6-0 start. The Vikings take on East Grand Rapids at 7 tonight in the Cornerstone Holiday Classic in Grand Rapids.
