WHITEHALL — Whitehall’s softball team posted some crooked numbers on the scoreboard in Game 1 of a nonleague doubleheader against visiting Spring Lake Thursday.
Whitehall scored seven runs in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and six in the fifth en route to a 19-9, five-inning victory in the first game. In Game 2, Spring Lake earned the split with an 8-6 win.
Here are some more details and notables from the games:
- Whitehall pounded out 23 hits in Game 1.
- Onnyka Dempsey, Lianne Fagan and Megan LeaTrea had four hits apiece for Whitehall in the first game. Taylor Ottinger and Annabel Kevwitch had three hits each for the Vikings.
- LeaTrea paced Whitehall with six RBIs in Game 1, while Dempsey and Evie Darke drove in three runs each.
- LeaTrea picked up the pitching win in the first game for Whitehall.
- In Game 2, Whitehall held a 5-3 lead entering the fifth inning but the Vikings could not hold on.
- Ottinger, Kevwitch and Hailey Carnes combined for six of Whitehall’s 10 hits in Game 2.
- Kevwitch narrowly missed out on a home run in the bottom of the seventh of the second game.
- LeaTrea took the Game 2 pitching loss, allowing six runs in six innings.
