The CatchMark Catch-Up is a weekly recap of highlights from the West Michigan Conference.

It’s Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, and we’re hitting highlights from last week in 2023-24 WMC winter sports.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Camden Thompson’s triple-double powers Whitehall past Montague

Camden Thompson delivered a monster triple-double with 23 points, 27 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks, and two steals in Whitehall’s 66-35 win at rival Montague last Thursday.

Ludington’s David Shillinger ties school’s single-game record

In a key WMC Lakes Division matchup last Thursday, Ludington senior David Shillinger had a performance for the ages. The senior guard tied a school single-game record with 45 points in the Orioles’ 64-56 victory over Oakridge.

Shillinger’s single-game point total ties that of Ludington’s Steve Schoenherr and Mike Larsen.

Shillinger was 19-of-21 from the free-throw line, including 7-for-8 in the fourth quarter to put away the vwin.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Oakridge honors all-timer Sophia Wiard for her achievements

Oakridge celebrated all-time leading scorer Sophia Wiard during a ceremony at halftime of last Friday’s girls basketball content against neighboring rival Orchard View.

Tee Ward, Killian Prewitt reach career-win milestones

Fremont senior Tee Ward reached career win 150 on Saturday, while classmate Killian Prewitt collected career victory 100 last Wednesday in a big week for the Packers.

Christopher Aebig gets career win 100 on memorable day for Montague wrestling

Montague senior Christopher Aebig earned his 100th career victory on a memorable day for the Wildcats’ wrestling program Saturday. On the same day, Montague’s girls team captured the Kent County Classic title at East Kentwood.

Whitehall keeps rolling with team title at Hart’s Bosse Memorial

Whitehall’s wrestling team, ranked No. 3 in Division 3, looks to have another powerhouse, evidenced by their first-place showing in Hart’s Bosse Memorial on Saturday.

BOWLING

Oakridge boys, girls get wins over Ravenna to improve to 6-0

Oakridge’s boys and girls bowling teams both improved to 6-0 in dual competition with victories over Ravenna last Wednesday.

Led by Travis Lewis’ two-game total 367, including high game of 203, Oakridge’s boys team edged Ravenna, 17-13.

On the girls side, Oakridge rallied from a 10-0 deficit to pull out a 16.5-13.5 victory. Breanna Twining’s two-game total 351 paced the Eagles.
