It’s Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, and we’re hitting highlights from last week in 2023-24 WMC winter sports.

WRESTLING

Whitehall finishes Division 3 state runner-up for second straight year

Whitehall finished Division 3 team wrestling state runner-up Saturday at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo after falling to powerhouse Dundee in the finals for a second straight year. This time, second-seeded Whitehall lost to nationally ranked and top-seeded Dundee, 49-20.

Earlier in the day, Whitehall picked up an impressive 44-24 semifinals victory over third-seeded Clinton.

Wyatt Jenkins triumphant return powers Whitehall in state quarters

Seven months to the day he broke his neck in a football veer camp, Whitehall junior Wyatt Jenkins made his season debut on the wrestling mat in Friday’s state quarterfinals and he did it in style.

Hart oh, so close to taking ‘next step’ at team state finals

Hart’s wrestling team lost a 32-30 heartbreaker to Constantine in the Division 3 state quarterfinals Friday, coming close to taking the “next step.”

West Michigan Conference represents well in regional, led by Ravenna

Plenty of hardware and medals to go around for West Michigan Conference bowling teams competing in regional competition last Thursday and Friday, led by team and individual regional champs from Ravenna.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Whitehall makes history with perfect regular season

The Division 2 second-ranked Whitehall’s boys basketball team defeated host Oakridge last Thursday, 75-57, to cap a 22-0 regular season. It’s the first perfect season in Vikings basketball history.

North Muskegon finishes off 22-0 regular season

Like Whitehall, North Muskegon capped a perfect regular season at 22-0 with an 83-36 victory at Holton last Monday.

It’s the first unbeaten season in Norse basketball history.
