Travis Boughan makes it two straight Players of the Week for Shelby football team

Tigers senior follows junior teammate Lalo Garcia with weekly honor.

Shelby’s football team carries a two-game winning streak into tonight’s West Michigan Conference nondivisional game at Manistee.

Now the Tigers have two CatchMark SportsNet Players of the Week, too.

Travis Boughan earned the distinction this time, following up junior Lalo Garcia’s recognition last week. Boughan amassed 6,126 of 10,313 total votes in the fan poll, which recognized six athletes from the West Michigan Conference for their performances spanning Sept. 26-Oct. 1, 2022.

In this week’s poll, Boughan held off Ludington football player Trey Forfinski, who finished with 4,001 votes. Final voting tallies for all six athletes can be found at the bottom of this story.

Boughan, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior, had a night to remember last Friday in Shelby’s 26-6 homecoming win over Holton. From the quarterback spot, he completed 11 of 28 passes for 206 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran 14 times for 72 yards.

From his linebacker position, Boughan recorded a team-high 4.5 tackles with a pick-6.

To top it off, he was crowned homecoming king.
