Welcome to the CatchMark SportsNet: Player of the Week, where we celebrate the unsung heroes and rising stars who light up the local sports scene! Each week, we put the spotlight on three extraordinary athletes who not only rack up impressive stats but also inspire their teammates and elevate their game.

At the end of this article, you’ll find a poll where you can cast your vote for the athlete you believe deserves the title of Player of the Week. The poll will be open for one week, starting today and ending on the following Friday (April 18th, 2025). Ty Schlukebir, Senior, Hart Baseball

The Pirates’ ace and southpaw tossed a one-hitter against Fremont this past weekend. In his outing, he struck out 12 batters and sliced the Packer lineup, leading them to a 4-0 win. Schlukebir contributed offensively as well, notching four hits and driving in four runs. The senior had a phenomenal week and has a high upside for the rest of the season.

Jayna Burmeister, Freshman, Shelby Softball

The freshman phenom dominated on the court in the winter, and now she brings her talents to the diamond. Burmeister pitched a no-hitter against Mason County Eastern on Saturday. She recorded 12 strikeouts as well as knocking in three runs at the dish. Burmeister also hit a round tripper in the fifth inning of game two helping the Tigers take the sweep.

Jacob Burns, Senior, Fremont Boys Track

Burns has blazing speed for his senior season. On Friday, the Fremont track star ran an 11.64-second 100-meter dash and picked up first-place honors. On the season, Burns has also run a 7.37-second 60-meter dash and contributed in a 45.17-second 4×100 relay at the Rich Tompkins Packer Relays meet.

Myles Welch joined CatchMark in February 2024 as a CatchMark SportsNet Intern. He would like to become a sports broadcaster or analyst. He currently attends Whitehall High School and will graduate in 2025.
