Hot-hitting North Muskegon catcher wins CatchMark Performance of Week poll (April 18-23)

It’s a big day for Norse sophomore Ben Meyers, who also was featured in the ‘Hot Seat.’

You can’t get much hotter at the plate than what North Muskegon’s Ben Meyers was last week.

Just ask Ravenna’s baseball team.

The Norsemen sophomore was 7-for-9 in a sweep of the Bulldogs last Tuesday. That effort was recognized by voters in the CatchMark Performance of the Week, presented by VanDyk Mortgage.

Meyers won the CatchMark SportsNet poll that considered top performances in the West Michigan Conference for the week of April 18-23, 2022. He finished with 262 of 450 total votes, good for 58.2 percent. Oakridge senior baseball player Corey Vanderputte finished second in the poll with 149 votes.

In North Muskegon’s Game 1 win over Ravenna last week, Meyers finished 4-of-5 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.

The Norse’s starting catcher and leadoff batter is hitting .571 on the season with three homers, including two grand slams. He’s also notched four doubles and one triple.

North Muskegon (11-2-1 overall, 8-0 West Michigan Conference) has its sights set on a big league doubleheader at Montague Tuesday, as the teams are both unbeaten in the WMC and shared the conference title last season.
