BOYS TENNIS
Ludington finishes fifth at Division 4 state finals
Ludington’s boys tennis team in the Division 4 state finals in a marathon weekend Friday and Saturday at Hope College.
The Orioles were led by singles-flight state runners-up Charles Kolb and Reece Ward.
North Muskegon’s Luke Hall also competed at the Division 4 state finals.

GIRLS GOLF
Whitehall places seventh as a team at Division 3state finals
The goal each year for Whitehall’s golf teams is to qualify for the state finals. The Vikings girls did that and more, finishing in seventh place in the 18-team Division 3 state finals tournament in rain and cold conditions Friday and Saturday at The Meadows.
Elsewhere, Holton junior EmmaLee Fox competed in the Division 4 state finals at Bedford Valley.

Ludington’s Emma McKinley posts top-6 finish at Division 3 state finals
Ludington senior Emma McKinley capped her strong high school golf with a sixth-place finish in the Division 3 state finals Friday and Saturday at The Meadows.
As a team, Ludington placed 10th.

FOOTBALL
Historic night for Hart’s football team
Hart’s 44-0 victory over visiting Ravenna in WMC Rivers Division football action secure the Pirates their first eight-win season since 1968. It was the Pirates’ first win over the Bulldogs since 1992.

Whitehall blanks Orchard View for second straight 9-0 season
Whitehall’s football team posted a school-record sixth shutout and capped a second straight 9-0 regular season with a 68-0 victory over visiting Orchard View.

North Muskegon completes 9-0 regular season, first since 1986
North Muskegon defeated visiting Shelby, 52-14, in WMC Rivers football action to complete a 9-0 regular season, the first for the program since 1986.

Oakridge carries momentum into playoffs with win over Montague
Trever Jones scored four touchdowns to lead Oakridge past Montague, 35-14, in a WMC Lakes Division football game. It was the third straight convincing win for the Eagles, who head into the playoffs with some momentum.

VOLLEYBALL
Ludington secures overall WMC Lakes title
WMC Lakes regular-season champion Ludington defeated Montague, 25-12, 25-12, in the finals of the divisional tournament Saturday at Manistee. That secures the overall WMC Lakes title for the Orioles for a second straight season.
In the semifinals, Ludington defeated Whitehall in a tough one, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14. The Orioles trailed the Vikings 8-3 in the third game.
Stat leaders for Ludington: Maddy Vaara 19 kills and 17 digs; Jordyn Anderson 47 assists and 13 digs; Karli Mesyar 23 digs; Jaelyn Laird 13 kills; and Mia Pung 12 digs.
Ludington is 36-8-2 on the season.

Shelby sweeps through WMC Rivers season
Shelby swept through the WMC Rivers portion of the schedule, not dropping a set all season in the division. The Tigers continued that trend in Saturday’s divisional tournament at Holton.
Shelby defeated North Muskegon, 25-22, 25-23, in the tournament finals. In the semifinals, Shelby beat Hart the second time in the week, 25-18, 25-18.
Stat leaders for Shelby: Navea Gauthier 50 kills and 19 digs; Hannah Frees 19 digs, and Brylee Friedman 18 digs.
Shelby is 26-12 overall this season with a second straight WMC Rivers championship. Prior to 2022, the Tigers’ last WMC title was in 1999.

BOYS SOCCER
Fremont edges Manistee for first district title since 2006
Fremont edged conference foe Manistee, 2-1, in a Division 3 boys district soccer finals match Saturday at Whitehall. It’s the first district title for the Packers since 2006.

CROSS COUNTRY
Jazwinskis, Hart keep cruising
Jessica and Bobby Jazwinski took first place in their respective races and lead their Hart teams to divisional titles in the WMC Mega Meet last Tuesday at Mason County Fairgrounds.
The Jazwinskis and Hart kept it rolling Saturday in Spring Lake, as they claimed individual titles and the Pirates teams finished first in girls and boys at the Mel Hall Invitational.
