GIRLS GOLF
Medalist Emma McKinley leads Ludington to regional title
Senior Emma McKinley shot a 5-over 77 on a tough St. Ives Golf Course last Tuesday in leading Ludington to the team title in a Division 3 regional. McKinley is regional medalist for the second straight year.
Whitehall finishes third at regional, qualifies for state finals
Whitehall’s girls golf team placed third in the Division 3 regional at St. Ives, punching its ticket to the Oct. 20-21 state finals at The Meadows.
Montague shows steady improvement, falls just short of state finals
A young Montague girls golf team placed fourth in the Division 3 regional at St. Ives, just outside the top three necessary to advance to the state finals. The Wildcats showed steady improvement throughout the season.
Holton’s EmmaLee Fox qualifies for Division 4 state finals
Holton junior EmmaLee Fox shot 104 to finish second among the individual state finals qualifiers in a Division 4 regional last Tuesday at Ferris State University’s Katke Golf Course. She’ll compete in the Oct. 20-21 state finals at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek.

BOYS SOCCER
Oakridge’s Arturo Romero-Serrano scores 100th career goal
Oakridge senior Arturo Romero-Serrano scored his 100th career goal, plus three more, in powering the Eagles to a 5-0 victory over visiting Grant in a Division 3 boys district soccer opener last Wednesday. Romero-Serrano has 40 goals this season, the second straight year he’s accomplished that feat.
Oakridge hosts Belding in the district semifinals at 5 p.m. today.

VOLLEYBALL
Ludington in driver’s seat for WMC Lakes after win at Fremont
Ludington’s volleyball team dropped the first set but rallied to win the next three in defeating host Fremont in a match last Tuesday that put the Orioles in the driver’s seat in the WMC Lakes Division.

Montague finishes runner-up in GMAA tournament
Montague’s volleyball team played strong throughout the day Saturday en route to a runner-up finish to host Mona Shores in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tournament.

BOYS TENNIS
Ludington rolls to Coastal Conference title, then earns state finals berth
Ludington’s boys tennis team began its week by dominating the Coastal Conference tournament last Monday at Whitehall.
Three days later, the Orioles finished second in a tough Division 4 regional host by Traverse City St. Francis. That punch their ticket for a berth in the state finals Oct. 20-21 at Hope College.

North Muskegon’s Luke Hall wins regional title
North Muskegon junior Luke Hall was feeling under the weather in last Monday’s Coastal Conference tournament. He withdrew, knowing that his bigger goal was earning a state finals berth in last Thursday’s regional. The move paid off. Not only did Hall qualify for the state finals, he captured a regional title.

FOOTBALL
Whitehall clinches outright WMC Lakes title with another shutout
It was a dreary night with the rain and cold Friday but also a momentous evening for Whitehall’s football team. In Whitehall’s 56-0 homecoming victory over Fremont, coupled with Montague’s win over Manistee, the Vikings secured the outright WMC Lakes Division title. Whitehall senior QB Kyle Stratton scored his 100th career TD.

Montague upends Manistee behind Adam Baird’s big night
Senior Adam Baird rushed for 201 yards and all three of Montague’s touchdowns, plus he recorded a key sack near the end of the game to help preserve the Wildcats’ 24-22 victory over ranked Manistee on Friday.

North Muskegon clinches WMC Rivers title share
North Muskegon’s football team moved its home game to Holton Friday in an effort to try and preserve the grass playing surface at Fred Jacks Memorial Field for the playoffs. The Norsemen apparently liked playing on Holton’s turf surface, rolling to a 64-0 victory that clinched at least a share of the WMC Rivers title.

CROSS COUNTRY
Whitehall junior standouts post strong finishes at GMAA meet
Whitehall juniors Stewart Waters and Cami Kraai finished second and third, respectively, in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association cross country meet Saturday at University Park Golf Course.
