Each week, we put the spotlight on three extraordinary athletes who not only rack up impressive stats but also inspire their teammates and elevate their game.
At the end of this article, you’ll find a poll where you can cast your vote for the athlete you believe deserves the title of Player of the Week. Reese Smith, Sophomore, Hart Softball
Smith tossed her first perfect game and launched two home runs on the way to Hart’s doubleheader sweep over Orchard View. She went 2-2 with a homer and three RBIs in the first game, during which she didn’t allow a single baserunner. Smith had a similar line in the night cap with two hits, one long ball, and three RBIs.
Natalie Rosel, Sophomore, Ravenna Softball
Ravenna played two doubleheaders this past week, and Rosel shone from the pitching circle. Against Sacred Heart, she earned the win, allowing just one run and striking out 17 hitters. Against North Muskegon, Rosel allowed just one hit while striking out nine and earned the win.
Mason Mulnix, Senior, Whitehall Boys Track
Mulnix took first-place honors in three different events, including the 100m, 200m, and 300m at the WMC Lakes Conference championship. In the 100m, Mulnix finished with a time of 10.99 in the finals. A time of 22.44 in the 200m notched him his second first-place finish. Finally, in the 400m, Mulnix raced to a 50.97 time.
Myles Welch joined CatchMark in February 2024 as a CatchMark SportsNet Intern. He would like to become a sports broadcaster or analyst. He currently attends Whitehall High School and will graduate in 2025.
