VOLLEYBALL
Montague earns key win over rival Whitehall
Montague needed a win over hosting rival Whitehall last Tuesday in order to have a realistic shot of staying in the WMC Lakes Division title chase. The Wildcats got it, defeating the Vikings in four sets, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22.
Montague improved to 2-1 in the WMC Lakes, while Whitehall is 1-1.
Montague hosts Lakes-leading Ludington this Tuesday (Sept. 26) in a key match.

FOOTBALL
Whitehall posts shutout in matchup of unbeatens
Whitehall’s football team has played two WMC Lakes Division opponents and posted two shutouts. On Friday, the Vikings did so against previously unbeaten Manistee.
Whitehall defeated host Manistee, 35-0, the same score by which the Vikings beat host Montague the week before in the “Battle for the Bell.”
In a showdown of top-five-ranked teams, Whitehall entered No. 2 in Division 4 and Manistee was No. 3 in Division 6.
Whitehall (5-0) has now won 14 straight regular-season games. Manistee is 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the WMC Lakes.
James Young leads North Muskegon past Hart in battle of unbeatens
James Young passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another in leading North Muskegon to a 34-14 victory over host Hart Friday in a battle of unbeatens and state-ranked teams.
North Muskegon, ranked No. 2 in Division, improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the WMC Rivers. Hart, ranked No. 8 in Division 6, is now 4-1 and 1-1, respectively.

David Shillinger helps Ludington spoil Montague’s homecoming
David Shillinger caught two touchdown passes and ran for two more in leading visiting Ludington to a thrilling 34-31 football win over Montague Friday, spoiling the Wildcats’ homecoming.
Trio leads Ludington to WMC jamboree victory at Old Channel Trail
Ludington claimed the top three individual spots en route to the first-place team finish in a nine-hole WMC jamboree last Wednesday at Old Channel Trail in Montague. Ludington shot 169 as a team, paced by Emma McKinley (37), Reya Dila (41), and Julia Reed (43).
Whitehall was runner-up at 188, paced by Grace McDowell (44). Montague was third at 200, led by Kennedy Johnson (44).
In the Ludington Invitational Friday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club, Ludington finished runner-up in the 18-hole event with a team score of 363. Spring Lake took top honors with 351. Whitehall was fifth (382) and Montague sixth (400). McKinley was the top scorer from a WMC school, placing fourth with a 78. Grand Rapids Christian’s Lillian O’Grady earned medalist honors with a 69.

Whitehall tops North Muskegon in Coastal Conference dual
Whitehall leaned on its doubles flights to earn a 6-2 victory over visiting North Muskegon last Monday in a Coastal Conference match.
WMC Lakes and Rivers jamborees at Whitehall and Ravenna
CatchMark SportsNet had two WMC cross country jamborees covered last Tuesday, as the Lakes took to the course at Whitehall and the Rivers took place at Ravenna.
